TX State duck-calling contest coming up
Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World in Grapevine will host the 2006 Texas State Championship Duck-Calling Contest on Aug. 5. Registration begins at 8 a.m., the contest at 9 a.m.
Contestants must be Texas residents, 17 or older. Early registration costs $55. On-site registration is $60. The top three finishers will receive trophies and merchandise. The winner gets a prize package valued at $1,250.
Contestants will have 90 seconds to demonstrate command of various calls, including the hail call, lonesome hen, feed car and comeback call. The state champ will represent Texas in the November world championship in Stuttgart, Ark. A junior calling contest follows the championship event. Entry forms can be downloaded at www.basspro.com or contact contest chairman Newell Cheatheam, 281-392-2034.

KATY - Ward McGee of Katy won the Texas State Championship Duck Calling Contest on Aug. 20, it was announced by Contest Chairman Newell Cheatheam, also of Katy.
McGee won a $1,250 gift certificate sponsored by Sportsman's Warehouse of Lewisville, Texas, a First Place trophy, and a certificate as the Texas State champion caller.

McGee, a sales representative for Acme Brick won the contest in 2001 and 2004 also, and called in the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest those years. McGee will represent Texas in the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest in November, Thanksgiving weekend, against 55 to 60 other contestants from all over the world.
